Two Outback workers wish nobody saw what message they wrote on cops’ receipt

Police officers, emergency workers, and first responders risk their lives every single day to protect our communities. They work tirelessly, often putting in long hours no matter the time of day or the risks involved. Their dedication ensures that we can all feel a little safer, knowing someone is always out there watching over us.

After one particularly long and exhausting shift, four Louisiana police officers decided to head over to their local Outback Steakhouse in Slidell to grab a bite to eat. Little did they know that they were about to receive a surprising gesture that would warm their hearts—and make headlines.

According to Fox8, the officers entered the Outback Steakhouse just like any other customers, looking to refuel after a tough day on duty. Everything went smoothly. Their meal was served without a hitch, and they enjoyed a typical night out—until they received their receipt and got an unexpected surprise.

Zoë Rao, a waitress at the Outback, described the officers as “the sweetest guys.” “I enjoy waiting on them,” she said, emphasizing how much the staff appreciated having them around. That appreciation went a step further that night, thanks to a simple yet meaningful idea.

Manager Arline Wood, who has been with Outback for 18 years, recognized the officers as regulars and wanted to do something special. She approached Zoë with an idea, and the two of them devised a plan. When it came time for the officers to pay their $67 bill, they realized there was a big surprise waiting for them.

Instead of seeing the total amount due, they found a heartfelt message, and the receipt showed that their meal was on the house. Written at the top of the receipt were the words, “Be safe!” Farther down, another message read, “Thank y’all for y’all’s service! Enjoy y’all’s meal on us!” It was a small but sincere gesture of gratitude from the Outback staff.

“They care about the community. They care about everybody. They’re just great guys,” said Arline. “Our whole police force is great, and these guys at night, I went to Zoë and said, let’s take care of it.”

The officers were touched by the unexpected kindness and showed their appreciation by leaving a generous tip. They understood that this was a gesture from the heart, and they wanted to give something back in return.

Later, the Slidell Police Department took to social media to honor the kindness shown by the two Outback employees. They posted a picture of the receipt on their official Facebook page, and it quickly went viral. The post gained traction, touching the hearts of thousands of people across social media.

However, this was never what Arline or Zoë had intended. They didn’t do it for publicity or recognition. In fact, when asked about the overwhelming response, Arline admitted that the attention had been a bit much. “I got a phone call early in the morning, and I was like, what are you talking about?” Arline recalled. “People were calling me, then we saw it on Facebook, then it’s on this one and that one, and we didn’t do it for this publicity. Lord knows I don’t like all this attention.”

Despite the unexpected attention, there might be a positive outcome from this viral story. Arline and Zoë hope that their small act of kindness will inspire others to do the same for those who serve and protect us every day. It doesn’t have to be a big gesture—even the smallest show of appreciation can mean the world to someone who is out there risking their life for others.

These two women set a powerful example of how to thank our law enforcement officers, who voluntarily face the dangers of the world every day so that we don’t have to. Their generosity stands in stark contrast to some of the negative stories we hear, like police officers being denied service or facing disrespect simply because of their uniform. It’s acts of kindness and appreciation like this that remind first responders why they do what they do. It shows them that there are people who truly value their sacrifices.

To all the first responders out there—thank you for everything you do. Your courage and dedication do not go unnoticed, and you are greatly appreciated by so many of us. This is the kind of story we need to see more often—people supporting those who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.

Please share this story to inspire others to show their appreciation for those who risk their lives every day. Whether it’s a simple thank-you, buying someone a meal, or just recognizing the hard work they do, these gestures make a difference. Let’s keep spreading positivity and show our gratitude for those who dedicate their lives to protecting us.
